Building on its mandate and work towards helping countries develop peacefully, equitably and sustainably while protecting and restoring their ecosystem functions and services, UN Environment has launched a new five-year Freshwater Strategy
in line with the 2030 Agenda.
The UN Environment Freshwater Strategy 2017-2021
lays the foundation for the work the organization will do to help countries implement SDGs related to freshwater, placing priority on tackling water quality challenges, promoting integrated water resources management (IWRM), protecting and restoring water-related ecosystems and addressing water-related conflict and disasters. The Strategy is designed to bring together the organization's work that touches upon freshwater and provide a catalyst for action with various partners and stakeholders, at different levels of engagement.
