The Conference was organized jointly by the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan, the United Nations and other partners to facilitate the implementation of the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development”, 2018-2028, endorsed by UN General Assembly.
The Conference set out to create dialogue around the ways that Member States, relevant UN bodies, the specialized agencies, the regional commissions and other organizations of the UN system, as well as other relevant partners, including the private sector can contribute to the Decade in order to support the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also facilitated discussion on the importance of specific means of implementation, including monitoring, financing, capacity development, access to technology and partnership with the private sector and civil society.
