Financing climate change adaptation in transboundary basins

You are cordially invited to the global workshop on “Financing climate change adaptation in transboundary basins” which will be held on 13-14 September 2016 in Geneva, back-to-back with the 8th meeting of the Task Force on Water and Climate on 15 September. The workshop is organized in the framework of the UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) and under the leadership of the Governments of the Netherlands and Switzerland, in cooperation with several international partners, such as the World Bank Group, AGWA, IUCN and WMO.

In light of the outcomes of COP21 and in view of the upcoming COP22 in Morocco, the workshop aims to facilitate implementation and financing of basin-wide adaptation - from strategies and plans to concrete measures - while considering differences in transboundary basins’ governance, administrative structure and mandate. It will also consider the current global climate finance infrastructure, barriers and challenges in accessing climate finance for water and discuss how to ensure transboundary aspects are taken into account in national and local projects, where relevant. Private sector and innovative finance mechanisms will also be considered and AGWA’s work on green bonds and CRIDA will be presented. International experts, practitioners, innovators, and academics will convene in Anchorage, Alaska, September 18-21, 2016 to share information, explore innovations, and forge partnerships. Read More...
