High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2018

The sixth session of the High-level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2018), convening under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), will take place from 9-18 July 2018. The three-day ministerial meeting of the Forum will take place from 16-18 July, as part of ECOSOC's high-level segment.

The theme of HLPF 2018 will be: ‘Transformation towards sustainable and resilient societies’. The sub-set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to be reviewed in depth by HLPF 2018 will be: SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation), SDG 7 (affordable and clean energy), SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities), SDG 12 (responsible consumption and production), and SDG 15 (life on land). Goal 17 (Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development) is also considered each year. Building a Resilient Future through Water - Connecting the 2030 Agenda and the Paris Agreement

A side event on the occasion of the UNGA High Level Thematic Debate on Achieving the SDGs and the Paris Agreement Signing Ceremony, 21-22 April

Organized by the Permanent Mission of Sweden to the UN and the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), in partnership with the Alliance for Global Water Adaptation and the Rockefeller Foundation, the objective of the event is to present and discuss possible strategies for strengthening climate resilience through effective and sustainable water resources management and how the Paris Agreement and the SDGs can be implemented in a coordinated way with water as a useful connector. The UN Deputy Secretary General, H.E. Jan Eliasson, will be delivering a keynote speech.

All are invited to this event, which is set to take place on April 20 at the UN Headquarters in New York.

UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR)

The Third United Nations World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (WCDRR) will take place on 14-18 March 2015 in Sendai, Japan. The governments of the Netherlands, Colombia, and Japan are building a Delta Coalition, an initiative to bring together governments and other stakeholders to focus on river deltas. This meeting is organized with potential partners to discuss and design activities within the framework of the project “Addressing Water Security: Climate Impacts and Adaptation responses in Africa, Asia and Americas”. The framework and objectives of the project will be presented and partnership mechanisms and ideas for potential joint projects will be discussed and developed.
