During the XVI World Water Congress in Cancun, there will be a special session addressing water security and climate change in Asia. The session will present the main outcomes of the conference “Water Security and Climate Change (WSCC) – Challenges and Opportunities for Asia” that was attended by over 150 scientists from Asia in November 2016. It will also feature selected presentations that were appreciated by the participants. A key component will be group discussions on the relevance of the science agenda for SDGs and Paris Agreement implementation. The outcome of the session will be a report with best practice examples on "solution based research" and "future research demand and formats". The 3rd European Climate Change Adaptation (ECCA) Conference
will be taking place 5-9 June in Glasgow. This year's theme is "Our Climate Ready Future." Its goal is to inspire and enable people to work together to discover and deliver positive climate adaptation solutions that can strengthen society, revitalise local economies and enhance the environment. ECCA 2017 is held in Europe but the focus is global, with presenters from 48 countries on five continents. The packed programme features three plenary sessions, 85 parallel sessions, a poster drinks reception, a Ceilidh and a film screening.
This year, for the first time, there is a special Business and Innovation programme
to be run in parallel with the first two days of the conference. On Tuesday 6th June 2017, The ECCA Business Day

This week UNECE and UNESCO will be holding technical webinars on SDG indicator 6.5.2 “Proportion of transboundary basin area with an operational arrangement for water cooperation.” The webinars will explain the rationale behind indicator 6.5.2 and the methodology for monitoring it, and participants will have the opportunity to pose any questions they may have. They are expected to be particularly useful for the national administrations who are responsible for reporting on indicator 6.5.2.
The webinars are offered as part of the 2017 baseline process of the UN-Water Integrated Monitoring Initiative for SDG 6. They'll be offered in three languages (see below). Read More...

Mozambique’s coastline, which houses more than half of the country’s population of 26 million, is facing more frequent and severe storms and flooding, magnified by sea level rise and coastal erosion. The USAID-funded Mozambique Coastal City Adaptation Project (CCAP) is working with two vulnerable cities along Mozambique’s coastline to improve their municipal planning processes and adapt to climate change.
At this month's Adaptation Community Meeting, CCAP's Chief of Party, Maria Olanda Bata, will discuss the project's work assisting the development of local adaptation plans (Planos Locais de Adaptação - PLAs) for two coastal municipalities in Mozambique. The XVIth World Water Congress
“Bridging Science and Policy” to be held in Cancun, Mexico, is jointly organized by the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), the National Water Commission of Mexico (CONAGUA) and the National Association of Water and Sanitation Utilities (ANEAS). The World Water Congresses aims to provide a meeting place to share experiences, promote discussion, and present new knowledge, research results and new developments in the field of water policy and science from around the world.
This year's WWC will focus on bridging the gaps between science and policy in terms of knowledge, communication, and coordination. In particular, it aims to link professionals with information and experiences related to water resources at all levels, with experts working on key global water agendas and strategies. Additionally, the Congress is designed to catalyse cooperation and coordination among these professionals in order to facilitate global goals and strategies related to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to water, as well as agreements under the auspices of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, thematic priorities of past and upcoming World Water Forums, and other water-related programs.
