Water management under uncertainty: Special issue of Water Policy journal
In support of the UN High Level Experts and Leaders Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP), the journal Water Policy has released a special issue addressing a range of topics around water management under uncertainty. The open access publication includes over a dozen research articles on water infrastructure planning, management, and design. Authors include numerous AGWA members.
Among the collection in the special issue are several articles highlighting what are known as “bottom-up approaches” to climate adaptation — a family of complementary frameworks for risk assessment, reduction, design, and planning. These include the Climate Risk Informed Decision Analysis (CRIDA) framework co-developed through AGWA and published by UNESCO and ICIWaRM as well as the World Bank’s Decision Tree Framework, among others.
From the editors: “This collection provides practical grounding in selected advances already in place and practiced by leading institutions; advances that could be readily adapted by the water resources engineering and design professionals to better deal with risk and uncertainty in a non-stationary climate world.”
