AGWA is co-convening a session at the upcoming Frontiers in Hydrology Meeting in June 2022 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The Frontiers in Hydrology conference is co-sponsored by the American Geophysical Union (AGU) and CUAHSI (Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc.). The conference is designed for engineering, urban planning, social science, and affiliated science communities. This year’s theme is The Future of Water.
In the session, Deep Resilience – Integrative Adaptation Strategies for the Future of Water, speakers will discuss deep resilience strategies from the local to global scale, including nature-based solutions, engineering, social, and integrative solutions. The lead session convenor is the University of Idaho. Co-convenors include AGWA, Forest Trends, and Global Resilience Partnership.
Session Summary:
The pace and diversity of climate change impacts present “deep uncertainty” about future threats. Coping with climate change requires a new approach, moving beyond traditional sustainability and adaptation approaches to “deep resilience” strategies. Deep resilience encompasses more durable, resilient solutions by expanding the scope of problems being addressed to create reinforcing, interlocking, and synergistic solution sets. Water enables adaptation across sectors, and there is an increasingly pressing need to identify and implement climate coping measures in both engineered and natural water systems. In this session we welcome submissions on topics related to deep resilience strategies from the local to global scale. Special attention will be given to nature-based solutions, but can include engineering, social, and integrative solutions.
