Hassan Tolba Aboelnga
Dr. Hassan Aboelnga is a distinguished expert in water security, climate change, and sustainable development, blending a robust engineering foundation with extensive international experience. He is currently a researcher at TH Köln, University of Applied Sciences in Germany, specializing in urban water security and integrated water resources management. Dr. Aboelnga holds a Ph.D. from the University of Kassel, Germany, a Master's degree in Integrated Water Resources Management from the Technical University of Cologne and the University of Jordan, and a BSc in Civil Engineering from Mansoura University in Egypt.
Dr. Aboelnga has made significant contributions through his collaboration with prominent organizations such as the World Bank, UNESCO IHP, Union for Mediterranean, SDC, GIZ, and the League of Arab States. He led the development of the Arab Climate Knowledge Portal, a key initiative supported by the World Bank Group, aimed at combating climate change in the Arab region by translating complex scientific data into actionable knowledge for policymakers and practitioners.
Dr. Aboelnga’s extensive portfolio includes a recent book on urban water security plus over 40 publications, with co-authored pieces featured in respected outlets like the Thomson Reuters Foundation and Smart Water Magazine. His work has significantly influenced policy and practice related to climate-resilient development in the Arab region.
He sits on the Management Committee of specialist groups at the International Water Association, chairs the Urban Water Security working group, and is a member of the Water Security Task Force at the International Water Resources Association. He also serves as the Vice-Chair of the Middle East Water Forum.
