Rachael McDonnell

Dr Rachael McDonnell is the Deputy Director General of IWMI where she oversees the research and innovation of more than 200 scientists across offices in Asia and Africa. Prior to this she held the position of Strategic Program Director for Water, Climate Change and Resilience, and is a specialist in drought risk science and management. Before joining IWMI she was the Head of Climate Change Modelling and Adaptation at the International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture in Dubai. She previously held various academic positions at the University of Oxford after gaining her doctorate there. She was the founding director of the MSc in Water Science, Policy and Management at Oxford.
