Dutch Support for Disaster Risk, Droughts, and Policy Programs

The Netherlands Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management has long been active supporters of AGWA’s programs and activities, with particular engagement around AGWA’s Policy Group. In 2020, the Ministry provided further financial support to AGWA through Deltares. The program of work included a number of focal areas, including:

  • Drought and climate change guidance for the High-Level Experts Panel on Water and Disasters (HELP) Community;

  • The economic value of water-centric resilience, including an expanded conceptualization of economic analysis inclusive of cross-sectoral aspects of water;

  • Policy coherence across global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework and Paris Climate Agreement through the lens of water.

The AGWA Secretariat is grateful for the opportunity to engage in these critical areas. Colleagues from the Ministry and Deltares continue to work with us on these and other workstreams, with even more activities in process for the lead up to COP26 this November. Stay tuned for upcoming outputs on these topics as well as opportunities for broader network participation.
