Water Tracker for National Climate Planning secures new funding and begins work in Brazil
While the first phase of the Water Tracker, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office of the United Kingdom, is currently wrapping up (more news about Phase II coming soon!!), we have some bridge funding from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) to pilot the Water Tracker in a few Latin American countries, starting with Brazil. On Tuesday 23 April, the Brazilian National Water Authority (ANA) hosted a kick-off meeting for ANA staff that was led by AGWA's Regional Water Tracker Director for Latin America, Mario Lopez, with support from the IDB.
Based on that meeting, we will be developing a work plan for the next 8 months, during which time our local consultant will work with ANA to analyze 5-8 national climate documents and provide initial recommendations on improving water resilience at the national level. We will be working with ANA to develop a further plan to look at the sub-national policy level as well, but it's likely that work won't take place until 2025.
