Launching the UNFCCC CASTT Adaptation Academy at Climate Week NYC
The Climate Action and Support Transparency Training (CASTT) Adaptation Academy is a multi-week training programme on the Paris Agreement, with a focus on the adaptation reporting aspects of the enhanced transparency framework (ETF). The Adaptation Academy will aim to strengthen technical capacity for adaptation assessments, planning, policy frameworks and coordination across ministries and governance levels to act on climate change.
As part of Climate Week NYC, this side event served as a launch for the CASTT Adaptation Academy to national experts from developing countries, especially from the LAC, South America, and Africa. Senior leadership from two of the Adaptation Academy’s regional institutions — Oregon State University and IHE Delft Institute for Water Education— and the UNFCCC secretariat highlight the relevance of contributions from each of their organizations. In addition, high-level representatives from the Netherlands, Egypt, and South Africa speak to the need for global capacity building around climate adaptation and reporting, with special attention to the integral role of water resilience. Speakers also share plans for the Adaptation Academy training for 2021 and beyond.
