Water Resilience Tracker Phase II Kickoff Workshop: A Collaborative Step Towards Global Water Security
The recent three-day kick-off workshop for the second phase of the Water Resilience Tracker (WRT) in London marked a significant step forward in the global effort to enhance water resilience within the broader framework of climate adaptation. The WRT is part of the Just Transitions for Water Security (JTWS) program, a large, multi-year initiative funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The kickoff workshop, hosted by project partner Arup, brought together the new WRT partners, including Arup, AGWA, IWMI, and Deltares, to establish our collective work on advancing water management and climate resilience strategies.
As one of the three core JTWS workstreams (which also includes the Resilient Water Accelerator (RWA) and Fair Water Footprints (FWF)), the WRT focuses on climate governance and the integration of water resilience into national climate planning, particularly in water insecure regions. The workshops underscored the importance of coordinated action, focusing on creating an enabling environment for resilient water governance, supporting policy reform, and mobilizing investment flows for sustainable water management.
The Water Resilience Tracker is a practical tool designed to help countries assess and enhance water resilience in their national climate plans. It emphasizes the importance of robustness—the ability to withstand anticipated impacts—and flexibility—the capacity to adapt to less certain or unknown changes. By working across sectors and geographies, the WRT initiative aims to ensure that water management is central to effective climate adaptation and mitigation efforts.
This collaborative effort under JTWS highlights AGWA’s ongoing commitment to addressing global water challenges through innovative solutions and strategic partnerships. As we continue to build on this momentum, we look forward to shaping a more water-secure world for future generations.
